Twitter Rolls Out Updated Design

Twitter Rolls Out Updated Design
Is change always for the better? Hoping to avoid the backlash that counterpart Facebook has faced with its own site updates,Twitter announced today that it will roll out a site redesign over the coming weeks. The company says it is looking to simplify users’ experience with four tabs—Home, Connect, Discover, and Me—which will appear in the same fashion on both PCs and mobile devices.
Twitter rolled out the new design today on mobile devices and will do so on other devices in the coming weeks. With the announcement, Twitter produced a video highlighting its new layout on a site that explains the new features of the design. Twitter branded the launch with the hashtag #LetsFly, debuting a new office spa in San Francisco while simultaneously announcing the new design.

Twitter Launches Major Redesign

Twitter has introduced a whole new look for Twitter.com and TweetDeck, as well as its mobile apps, that it hopes will simplify the user experience. As the video above outlines, Twitter also introduced three new buttons at the top of the page — Home, @Connect and #Discover. @Connect shows who has mentioned you and suggests some accounts you might want to follow. #Discover shows what’s trending and points you to notable stories and videos.

One major difference on the homepage is that tweets appear on the right side and take up less real estate than they used to.

Mobile apps for iPhone and Android have also been updated.

“One main thrust here is making Twitter more accessible for all 7 billion people on the planet,” Jack Dorsey, chairman of Twitter, said during a press conference at Twitter’s soon-to-be new headquarters in San Francisco on Thursday. Dorsey added that the company has made it “simpler not just for people already engaged but easier for new people to discover it and find value in it. It’s the best place to represent yourself on the Internet.”
